Life With Elizabeth - Starring Betty White, Del Moore
This delightful comedy features Betty White and Del Moore as Elizabeth and Alvin, newlyweds who are just starting their lives together. Elizabeth is a housewife who sometimes has a problem keeping out of trouble all to the delight and exasperation of her husband, Alvin. This early situation style comedy showcased White and gave its audience a glimpse of the talent she would reveal on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls".

1. Fun with Photography/Honeymoon is Over/Temporary Disabilities
2. Nursery Rhymes/Alvin's First Business Trip/Weekend at the Cabin
3. Dyeing Easter Eggs/Modeling Clay/Yard Work with Babs
4. Mannerisms/Stupid Drapes/Bulldog Smith
5. Sunday Paper/Telephone Troubles/Flat Tire
6. Alvin's Home Work/Swimming Pool/The Swindle

The 4 DVD set is 15 hours and 15 minutes long.

I do not recommend purchasing the "Best of Lucy and Friends," because it contains the same public domain episodes released by many different companies many times before. The fourth disc doesn't even contain any Lucy episodes on it!

Another new Lucy DVD Coming Soon!

Just when we thought things couldn't get any sweeter, what with "The Final Seasons" being released tomorrow, "Without Love" in May, "The Lucille Ball Collection" in June and the "I Love Lucy Movie" before Christmas - DizzyArnizzy (Josh) brought us more exciting DVD news!

On May 1, Genius Productions, Inc. will release
"I Love Lucy - Lucy's Really Lost Moments." This closed captioned, 71 minute long, DVD will retail for $14.95. DizzyArnizzy researched to find out what was on this new release. He writes:

Well, I just found a description from MoviesUnlimited.org:

I Love Lucy - Lucy's Really Lost Moments

Not anymore! Share some laughs with the First Lady of Television with this ultra-rare compilation of footage starring the legendary Lucille Ball. Includes an "I Love Lucy" episode guest-starring Bob Hope; a Westinghouse special featuring Lucy; an episode of the game show "I've Got a Secret," in which Lucy appears with panelist Johnny Carson; and a rarely seen TV pilot starring Lucy.

This is the third home video release of the Westinghouse Special with Viv and Bill (unless this DVD will include the "Westinghouse Desilu Revue" (doubt it) or "Ellis In Freedomland", where Lucy is the voice of a washing machine).

The pilot is probably that 1960 "Victor Borge Comedy Hour", where Lucy takes part in the airplane skit with Gale (a clip from this was included on the "Funny World of Lucy" Vol. 2 DVD)

As for the "I've Got a Secret" episode, this will probably be a NEW "Lucy" appearance to DVD. The episode that will *most likely* be included on this set aired February 15th, 1960...Lucy was promoting "Wildcat" at the time. (Special thanks to HarryCarter over at the Lucy Lounge for the info on this "I've Got a Secret" episode).

"Mame" and More in June! ; I Love Lucy Movie in the Fall!

2007 is turning out to be an amazing year for Lucille Ball Fans! We have more news on Lucille Ball DVDs coming soon (including fan favorite, Mame) from Long Live Lucy Member, DizzyArnizzy (Josh). Josh writes:

Warner Bros.'s "LUCY" DVD COLLECTION JUNE 19th!!!!

Warner Brothers has recently released this information...I just saw it posted by Shemp at the We Love Lucy Message Board:

Press release from Warner Home Video...

RELEASE DATE: JUNE 19th; $42.99 (SRP)

Warner Home Video announces the Region 1 DVD release of "The Lucille Ball Collection" for 19th June 2007. Those who 'love Lucy' may be surprised to learn that Ms. Ball had nearly 20 years of big-screen credits prior to launching the TV show that made her a household name, and WHV will debut on DVD five of the films she made from 1940 through 1974: CRITIC'S CHOICE, DANCE GIRL DANCE, DU BARRY WAS A LADY, THE BIG STREET and MAME. In addition, BEST FOOT FORWARD will be available separately for the first time nationally.

All the films will include special features such as Oscar® nominated vintage short subjects, featurettes and classic cartoons. Packaged as a collectible gift set, the five-disc Lucille Ball Collection will sell for $49.92 SRP, with individual titles and BEST FOOT FORWARD available for $19.97 SRP.

CRITIC’S CHOICE (1963)
Lucille Ball and Bob Hope shine in this comedy from the Broadway hit by Ira Levin (No Time for Sergeants, Deathtrap). Tossing inspired throwaway lines right and left, Hope is New York theatre critic Parker Ballentine, who loves writing pointed reviews that close insufferable plays. But there’s a new show in town – by his redheaded wife (Ball). Is it bad? Parker better think twice before he writes this time. Rip Torn, Jim Backus and Marilyn Maxwell co-star.

DVD Special Features:

Vintage comedy short CALLING ALL TARS with Bob Hope [1935 WB Short]
Oscar-nominated Cartoon NOW HEAR THIS [1963 WB Cartoon]
Theatrical trailer

DANCE, GIRL, DANCE (1940)
Directed by Dorothy Arzner, classic Hollywood’s sole major female director in the ‘30s and ‘40s, this backstage musical has been embraced by fans for its feminist sensibilities as well as its powerful storytelling. Ball and Maureen O’Hara star as two very different types of women who are in the same chorus line. Judy (Maureen O’Hara) is a serious dancer, willing to suffer for her art, but while her friend Bubbles (Lucille Ball) loves to dance, she’s equally interested in paying the rent. To do that, she swaps her ballet shoes for a G-string…and turns patrons’ fantasies into dollars as burlesque sensation Tiger Lily White. Ball exhibits terrific onscreen chemistry as she vamps onscreen – and grabs the heart with her cynical acceptance of being a woman in a man’s world.

DVD Special Features:

Vintage comedy short JUST A CUTE KID [1940 WB Short]
Classic cartoon MALIBU BEACH PARTY [1940 WB Cartoon]

DU BARRY WAS A LADY (1943)
Lucy stars with Gene Kelly and Red Skelton in this glittery, tune-filled bon-bon featuring lavish sets and costumes, a supporting cast of wags and wits (including the inimitable Zero Mostel) and three Cole Porter songs from the original Broadway smash: Friendship, Katie Went to Haiti and Do I Love You? With Ball playing the glamorous nightclub chanteuse May Daly, who’s transformed into Madame Du Barry opposite Skelton as King Louis XV this is fabulous and fun musical comedy from Hollywood’s Golden Era.

DVD Special Features:

Oscar- Pete Smith specialty short SEEING HANDS [1943 MGM Short]
Classic cartoon BAH WILDERNESS [1943 MGM Cartoon]
Theatrical trailer

THE BIG STREET (1942)
This gutsy, touching melodrama was produced from a Damon Runyon story, the man who wrote Guys and Dolls. Ball and Henry Fonda play brilliantly against type -- Fonda poignant as a timid small-timer and Ball impressive as an icy vixen with an ego twice the size of her soul. Lucy plays haughty nightclub singer Gloria Lyons, a gold digger who doesn’t have time for anyone without money, including Little Pinks (Henry Fonda), the busboy who adores her. All that changes when Gloria is paralyzed after a mobster knocks her down the stairs, and she’s forced to see what and who really matter.

DVD Special Features:

Vintage musical short CALLING ALL GIRLS [1942 WB Short]
Classic cartoon THE HEP CAT [1942 WB Short]

MAME (1974)
This lavish 1974 screen version of the beloved Broadway musical stars Lucille Ball as a high-living grande dame who’s outlandishly eccentric and, when suddenly faced with raising an orphaned nephew, fiercely loving. Veterans of the New York stage original join her: Beatrice Arthur as best friend Vera, Jane Connell as prim governess Agnes Gooch, choreographer Onna White and director Gene Saks. As Mame’s husband Beauregard, Robert Preston (The Music Man) sings Loving You, written specially for the film. Jerry Herman’s songs, from It’s Today to We Need a Little Christmas and If He Walked into My Life, rank among the best show tunes ever.
DVD
Special Features:

Vintage featurette LUCKY MAME
Theatrical trailer

BEST FOOT FORWARD (1943)
Ball portrays herself as the attention-seeking glamour girl who accepts an invitation to the prom from a Winsocki Military Institute cadet as a publicity stunt. Costars June Allyson, Nancy Walker and Tommy Dix recreate their Broadway roles, and Harry James and his band play at the prom to make this a snappy frolic.

DVD Special Features:
Vintage musical short THE KNIGHT IS YOUNG, with June Allyson [1938 WB Vitaphone Short]
Classic cartoon ONE HAM’S FAMILY [1943 MGM Cartoon]
Theatrical trailer

WE WILL FINALLY HAVE THE "LUCY" DVD COLLECTION WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!!!

I Love Lucy Movie in the Fall!
(Josh) also shared this news about the "I Love Lucy Movie" we heard so much about last year:

Yesterday, on Tom Watson's internet radio show, "Star Notes" (broadcasting from shokusradio.com, Dann Cahn, "I Love Lucy"/"The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour"'s film editor, was the special guest. I was only able to listen to a short part of the episode, but from what I did hear, Dann announced that "The 'I Love Lucy' Movie" WILL BE RELEASED THIS FALL, BEFORE CHRISTMAS!! Dann rediscovered this "lost" film back in '01.

Gregg Oppenheimer, who produced the ILL DVDs (Seasons 1-6), is working on this DVD release. (BTW -- Gregg told me a few years back, I believe around May of 2004, that he was restoring this film, preparing it for a DVD release and/or a TV network airing, so I have been expecting this release for years.)

More information on "The 'I Love Lucy' Movie" HERE: http://www.lucyfan.com/lucymovie.html

If you recall, "The 'I Love Lucy' Movie" was planned to be released as a "Bonus Feature" on the upcoming "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour"/"I Love Lucy" Final Seasons 7-9 DVD release, but it was eventually decided to not include this film as a feature on that set. I'm glad this film will be getting its own single DVD release; it certainly deserves one...PLUS, it gives us Lucy fans a chance to see more "Lucy" rare extras/bonus features.

I will try to tune into the rerun of the radio show ("Star Notes") tomorrow on shokusradio.com at 4-6 PM Eastern Time, to post more details about this release.

Make Way For "Mame" On DVD!

Long Live Lucy Member, DizzyArnizzy (Josh), writes:

Yes, it is true -- WARNER BROTHERS HAS FINALLY CONFIRMED THIS NEWS!!

This news was revealed a few days ago on the Digital Bits site...here's a transcript of their chat with Warner Brothers regarding "Mame":

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[RobertSiegel] Are there any plans for MAME or Hotel and will either be stereo with such great scores?

[WARNER] Well...MAME is coming. We were waiting to do it in Stereo, and we found that it can't be achieved. So we are releasing it very soon, but it will be, as it was in theaters, in mono. We spent years trying to make it happen, and we couldn't, so at least the film will be released, and it will look and sound very good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

We don't know a definitive release date yet, BUT Warner DOES say it will be released "very soon", so my guess would be that it would be released by the end of the year (hopefully before the Christmas season!!).

There have been persistent rumors that "Mame" had been planned for a DVD release since over two years ago, and a few weeks ago, someone at the Internet Movie Database "Mame" Message Boards said he was working on the "Closed Captioning" for "Mame", but this is GREAT news to finally have Warner Brothers confirm the rumors that "Mame" WILL BE COMING TO DVD!!!!

It is unfortunate that it will only be released with a Mono audio track (as opposed to Stereo or 5.1 Digital Surround), but I'm very glad we will finally have "Mame" on DVD. Hopefully, they will include some good extras, like deleted scenes/extended song numbers, and the rumored "Mame" documentary!!

Donald Ogden Stewart adapts Philip Barry’s play (five years earlier, both helped shape Hepburn’s comeback movie The Philadelphia Story). Supporting stars Keenan Wynn as a bon vivant, Lucille Ball’s wisecracking Girl Friday and Gloria Grahame’s flower girl add to the movie’s urbane wit and warmth.

"The Pack", an independent film starring Lucie Arnaz as Eleanor Jordan, will be released by in May. Here's an excerpt of the film's synopsis from The Pack's Official Website:

"The Pack" is inspired by real life stories and documented cases where secondhand smoke is believed to be the cause of a loved ones death. In The Pack, an ambitious District Attorney prosecutes a wife on three counts of murder after her forty-seven year old husband dies of lung cancer from breathing her secondhand smoke for thirty years. In a wrenching twist, it turns out that the District Attorney is acting at the request of the couple's twenty year old son. At first, the jury struggles with what appears to be a ridiculous case, but as one juror delves deeper into the facts, the jury finds itself drawn into an intriguing, emotional and complicated choice regarding individual responsibility.
