New Musical Inspired by Lucy and Desi's Courtship

Playbill News has reported that Jenn Colella will take part in a free reading of the new musical, Dance With Me. Dance With Me was inspired by the story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's courtship. Its description reads:

"Escaping the bloodshed of his native Island, a young Cuban boy sets sail on a turbulent journey that leads him all the way to Hollywood and into the arms of a fiery, redheaded movie star named Lucille Ball. Can these two star-crossed lovers blaze a path that defies Hollywood and history to be together?"

Other members of the cast include Tony Yazbeck as Desi, Lynne Wintersteller as Dede, Michelle Blakely as Carole Lombard and Gerrianne Raphael as Hattie.

Dance With Me is a part of the York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series and will be presented Monday, April 16 at 7:30 PM. For reservations, phone the York Theatre Company at 212-935-5824, ext. 24.

"The Long, Long Trailer" At The Historic Redford Theatre

"The Long, Long Trailer," starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, will be shown tonight (Jan. 5) at 8:00PM at The Historic Redford Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. The film will also be shown Saturday (Jan. 6) at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Lucie Arnaz Hosting Hall of Fame Ceremony

Lucie Arnaz's official website states that Lucie will be one of the presenters hosting the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame Ceremony on December 14, 2006. Lucie will be inducting Regis Philbin who is currently hosting "Live with Regis and Kelly." The first ceremony in 1984 honored Lucie's mother, Lucille Ball.

"The Long, Long Trailer" will be shown Saturday, December 23 at 7:30 PM at The Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, California. "The First Time" starring Bob Cummings and Barbara Hale will be shown afterwards. This domestic double feature is apart of The Egyptian's "Screwball Holidays" comedy film festival.

Arnaz and Luckinbill Participating In Charity Reading Event

TheaterMania.com has reported that Lucie Arnaz and her real-life husband Laurence Luckinbill will read the parts of Karen and Lloyd Richards, a fictitious married couple in All About Eve. Celeste Holm and Hugh Marlowe originally portrayed the Richards in the 1950 film.

The daughter of comic legend Lucille Ball, and retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, will be featured at the Crest Theatre at the Old School Square Cultural Arts Center in Delray Beach during the 2006-2007 season of performances and lectures.

Now celebrating 14 years of presenting theatre, music, dance, lectures and Broadway cabaret, the Crest's lineup features innovative music and dance productions, comedy, classics and cirque on ice.

The Broadway Cabaret Series opens with Lucie Arnaz, and the 2007 Lecture Series will bring back Justice O'Connor, who first appeared 10 years ago.

Little Theatre Holds Annual Closet Sale

8/2/2006 - Over the years, the Lucille Ball Little Theatre has put on many productions, accumulating many costumes and props. On Friday, in an effort to thin out the hundreds of costumes, the theater members have decided to clean out the closets. When cleaning out the closets of the theater, chairpersons Linda Renaldo and Kathy Roselle found so many costumes and props that they decided it would be a good idea for the community to get a chance to buy some of the items. Everything from children’s costumes to adult period clothes, people will get a chance to view them during Lucille Ball’s Birthday Celebration weekend. ‘‘It’s a chance to meet new people,’’ Mrs. Renaldo said. Mrs. Renaldo believes that this sale will not only help ‘‘beef up’’ high school costume and prop rooms, but also generate new memberships and raise money for the theater. The sale will not only sell costumes from past shows, but also props, shoes, household items, jewelry and much more. There will also be theater tours during the sale hours for not only the tourists, but also for the people of Jamestown that might have never had a chance to see the backstage and basement of the theater.‘‘This is a chance for people to take a tour and generate interest,’’ Mrs. Renaldo said.All the money collected from the sale and from the $2 tours, will go to help the theater cover operating costs for the upcoming season. According to Mrs. Renaldo, with Little Theatre being such a big place to heat in the winter, the money donated and collected from this sale and hopeful new memberships, will be a big help.‘‘We want to build up memberships to keep this great community theater going for generations to come,’’ Mrs. Renaldo said. The sale will be held in the Little Theatre lobby from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m through 2 p.m. on Saturday, with theater tours during sale hours.
